Race for Mothers * Friends * Others

WP Daily Prompt: Mom

My daughter and I just came back from participating in the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure run/walk, Philadelphia edition. This annual run/walk is held in Philly on Mother’s Day and it’s always a huge turnout. I know women who have survived their battle with breast cancer and I admire their strength while fighting to overcome this deadly disease. Cancer, in general, is affecting more and more people each year – men, women, children – and I pray that in the very near future a cure will be found to eradicate this disease from everyone affected.

What made this Mother’s Day special for me is, this was an inauguration walk for my daughter. I’ve been running for different charities/fundraisers for years (Aids, Diabetes, Cancer, MS, Suicide Prevention, etc.) and have always done it alone because my children lived in a different state that where I live. I’ve taught my children to help others and give back when they see a need or just because, so they do it by donating their time in other ways, just not in runs/walks…until now.

This year my daughter lives with me, so we walked together. I am one of the happiest mothers around!! Smiling, smiling, smiling…

My hope for today is that all mothers (also include men who are mothering and fathering) have a wonderful and memorable day!

Daily Prompt: Wake Up To Inspiration

Here is a small sample of what I have on my bedroom wall. I like to wake up and start my day with color and positive thoughts. Since I am renting and not allowed to paint the walls (probably a good thing since I like to change things quite frequently), I decided to have color through pictures and posters that moves me. Because I am easily bored looking at the same thing everyday, I decided to laminate the images so it’s easier to move them around or change them out (don’t have to worry about wrinkling or tearing). Moving them around/change them out gives me new perspectives of what I am viewing.

A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Guide

Yesterday, I decided to put my blog on hiatus and focus on my school assignments. As I search information for my thesis investigating “The Physiological and Psychological Effects of Occupational Stress and Coping Strategies”, I am unearthing valuable information that may help me in my writing.

Even though I may not be thinking about new topics for my blog, I’ve decided to share info I discover as I move forward with my research.

In our society, everyone is or has experienced some sort of stress. The information found in the article below is not only helpful to people experiencing panic attacks, but can also be beneficial to those trying to manage regular stress. Feel free to take what you need and leave the rest behind. Enjoy!

See what happens when you bring the practice of “Pause, Observe/Experience, and Allow” into a panicky moment. Reflect upon the fact that life is indeed made of moments and although a moment of panic may seem like a thousand years, in actuality it’s not very long. Like all events in the body and mind, whatever arises, passes—for all things are certain to change.
